Jean Marguerite Overby, 100, of Kenyon, died Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at New Perspective Senior Living in Faribault.
Jean Marguerite (Kispert) Overby, the daughter of George and Claribel (Prestrude) Kispert was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 28, 1923. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Brethren Church in Nerstrand, Minnesota. Jean attended a country grade school near Nerstrand, finished eighth grade at a country school near Kenyon and graduated from Kenyon High School, Class of 1942.
On June 30, 1942 Jean married M. Cordet Overby at the Kenyon United Brethren Church. They were married for 66 years and did a lot of dancing together as long as their health permitted. They lived on a farm in rural Kenyon until 1989, when they moved into Kenyon.
Jean was an active member of Gol Lutheran Church serving as Sunday School teacher, president and secretary of the E.L.C.W, and deacon on the church council. She was also a member of the Kenyon VFW Auxiliary and the Kenyon Country Club.
Jean was employed as a clerk/typist at the Faribault Regional Center for 17 years, retiring in 1987. Her hobbies were reading, crossword puzzles, golf, and playing cards and scrabble. She moved to Kenyon Senior Living in 2022 and later to New Perspective Senior Living in Faribault.
She is survived by her children, Bernard "Bernie" Overby of Kenyon, Kevin (and Karen) Overby of Nerstrand and Barbara Rust of Berryville, AR; grandchildren, Crystal (John), Jeremy (Stephanie), Joshua (Sarah), Jesse (Ana) and Mikhail (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Callista, Autumn, Vivian, Breckston, Martin, Aurelia, Sofia, Lucia, Julian, Gabriella, Aubree and Grace; great-great-grandchild, Kinley; sister-in-law, Rosella Strandemo of Kenyon and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Claribel; husband, M. Cordet Overby; grandchildren, Brook and Melody Rust; son-in-law, Randall Rust; brothers, Gerald and Claire Kispert and sister, Alice Berg.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM April 26, 2024, at Gol Lutheran Church, Kenyon, with visitation one hour prior.
