Obituary

Jean died peacefully February 24, 2025 at Benedictine Living Community, Owatonna, MN one week after she celebrated her 93rd birthday with family and dear friends, many from her church.

Jean Ann Greenville Pederson was born February 16, 1932 to Charles and Bertha (Hullander) Greenville of Canon City at St. Lucas Hospital in Faribault. Jean grew up in Canon City and attended District 10 school. She graduated from Faribault High School in 1950 and as an RN from the Kahler School of Nursing, Rochester in 1953. She always wanted to be a nurse. She worked at the State Hospital in Rochester, with a keen interest in mental illness and great compassion for her patients.

Jean married Alvin Pederson in 1956 and enjoyed farming with Alvin, driving tractor, working in the fields, and raising their 3 children. She enjoyed teaching her children many things, including how to embroider, sew, crochet, bake and cook. Spending time with family was precious to Jean. She encouraged her children in all their endeavors and welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren with great love and open arms.

Jean's faith was the foundation of her life. She was an active member of St. John's UCC – Nerstrand, and loved participating in Ladies' Guild, teaching Sunday School & VBS, leading Bible studies, singing in the choir and helping out wherever needed.Jean took a refresher course in nursing and returned to work at Pleasant Manor nursing home in Faribault in the late 1970s.

Jean enjoyed nature, living in the country (she was not a city girl), flowers, gardening, and loved to mow her yard. She liked to bake and in recent years made apple pies from her beloved apple tree which she shared with her family and neighbors. She enjoyed playing piano and singing hymns and listening to music. Jean knew the importance of friendship. As an only child, she happily chose dear friends as her "sisters" and she was blessed with many wonderful friends whom she loved dearly over the years.

This passion for befriending others carried over into Jean's love for animals. Any stray cat or raccoon had a new friend for life if they passed Jean's path. She especially loved her housecats, Sunshine, Precious, and Schroeder, who became her dear companions after her husband died in 2004. Jean was grateful to all those who helped her stay in her home until she was 90 years old. Her family is appreciative of the care Jean received these past 3 years at Traditions and Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna.

Jean is survived by her son Steven Pederson (Renata McGovern), daughters Marcia (Robert) Flaa, and Julie (Robert) Wobbrock. Daughter-in-law Colleen Pederson. Grandchildren Jennifer Pederson (Tom Nikunen), Heather (Jason) Caron, Allison (Alex) Krysl, Alexander Flaa, Nolan (Bria) Flaa, Ryan Flaa, Kylie (Brady) Hickey & Jake Wobbrock. Great-grandchildren Charles, Olive, Shelby, Celyan, Elias, Robert & Decker.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Mark, her husband, Alvin and her parents.
