Obituary

Jeanne Isabelle Sawyer, 87, of Owatonna, died peacefully Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Homestead Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 16, 1921 in Emmetsburg, Iowa the daughter of Eugene and Isabelle (Satter) Harrison. She received her education and graduated from High School in Estherville, IA. She married JD Sawyer April 29, 1939. They resided in Iowa and Washington before moving to Minnesota in 1951, where they lived until retiring in Arizona in 1984. Mr. Sawyer died in November of 1994 and Jeanne moved to Owatonna in 1999. Mrs. Sawyer worked as a bookkeeper for over twenty years, but her choice of position in life was a Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. After retiring from bookkeeping she was a member of the Dodge County Welfare board and the Fairview Nursing Home Board. She was a member of the Claremont Presbyterian Church and served as an n elder, choir Member, Sunday school teacher, and held offices in the Presbyterian Women's Assoc. As of 1990 she became a member of the John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Apache Junction, AZ, where she served two years as the Moderator of the Presbyterian Women's Assoc., and volunteered weekly to the Migrant Ministry. She later became a member of the Associated Church in Owatonna in 2000. She is survived by her son Jim (Linda) Sawyer of Northfield, daughters Judy (Rex) Brown of Blooming Prairie, Jonna (Richard L.) Johnson of Claremont, and Janine (Dennis) Louks of Blooming Prairie, eleven grandchildren Stephanie Ritter, Steven Johnson, Shalaine Evert, Shawn Brown, Jared Brown, Christopher Sawyer, Natalie Sawyer Fink, Jason Louks, Aaron Louks, Joshua Louks, and Arianna Anderson, and thirty one great grandchildren. Her sister Frances Jacobson of Salt Lake City, foreign exchange son Miguel Garza of Monterey, Mexico, and many nieces and nephews also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, three sisters, and one grandson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday April 17, 2009 from 5-8 PM and at Associated Church on Saturday from 9-10 AM. A celebration of Jeanne''s life will be held Saturday April 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Associated Church with Reverend Jim Oberg officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Claremont.
