Jeannine Mae Kalvig, 72, of Kenyon, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Kenyon Sunset Home. Jeannine was born July 6, 1937 in Winona, Minnesota the daughter of Ralph and Evelyn (Staudacher) Hardtke. She was raised and attended school in Winona graduating in 1955. She then attended Winona State University and earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Teaching. Jeannine moved to Kenyon and taught for four years at Kenyon Elementary and one year at West Concord. During that time she was active with the Girl Scouts and became a Girl Scout Leader. She was united in marriage to Darrel D. Kalvig on June 23, 1963 at Central Lutheran Church in Winona. Jeannine enjoyed watching baseball and the Minnesota Twins. She also enjoyed making crafts. She was active in the Ladies Aid at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. After her retirement, she enjoyed camping and going South to Texas with her husband during the winter months, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Darrel Kalvig of Kenyon; daughter, Leanne (and Tom) Musgjerd of Elk River; two sons, Darren (and Trina) Kalvig of Bingham Lake, MN; Jay Kalvig of Owatonna; sister, Beverly Pille of Plainview; and seven grandchildren, Savanah Dunnick, Gunnar and Liam Kalvig, Owen, Cy, Joseph and Sheldon Musgjerd. She was preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Ralph and Gertrude Hardtke, and her mother Evelyn Weathers. Visitation will be at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon on Saturday, January 9, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the spring in Little Cannon Cemetery, Kenyon. Memorials are preferred to Little Cannon Cemetery Association or the First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW).
