Jerome Joseph Kubat, 95, of Claremont, died Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
He was born September 13, 1925, on the Houdek family farm in Lemond Township, Steele County, Minnesota the son of Victor and Anne (Houdek) Kubat, Sr. He grew up on a farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. He then worked as a farmhand before joining the United States Army, serving in the Philippines and Japan during WW II. He was united in marriage to Mildred Standke on September 1, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The couple lived on the Polachek farm where Jerome worked. They later moved to Ellendale. He purchased a farm near Claremont and he worked as a farmer along with working at Lysne Construction. He retired from farming in 2014.
Even though Jerome's life mainly revolved around working, he enjoyed the occasional hunting and fishing trip.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mildred Kubat of Claremont; children, Sharon Menefee of Ellendale, Stuart (Gala) Kubat of Clarks Grove and Spencer (Barbara) Kubat of Webster; grandchildren Angie Menefee, Grant (Mai) Menefee, Jessica (Jay) Eidem and Mitch (Rachel) Kubat; step-grandchildren, Stacy (Nathan) Tempel, Nikki (Mark) Caldron and Eric Seath and four great-grandchildren, Henry Eidem, William Eidem, Millie Menefee and Mabel Menefee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Anne; and siblings, Victor (Irene) Kubat, Jr., Dorothy Kubat, Rosella (Howard) Moe and Leo (Shirley) Kubat.
A private interment will be held at Steele Center Cemetery with military honors by the Countywide Funeral Detail.
