Jerry Lee Peterson, age 75, of Owatonna, died after a courageous battle with lung cancer on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at his home. Jerry was born October 19, 1939 in Sioux City, Iowa at the Florence Crittenton Home and adopted by Mauritz and Fern (Flatt) Peterson of Spirit Lake, IA. He attended elementary school in Terril, Iowa until his Dad decided to move to California to become a minister. He went to parochial schools in California and graduated with a history major from Loma Linda University. Jerry joined the United States Army after college graduation and at the end of his commitment he returned to California. He was united in marriage to Sharon Kalscheuer on June 25, 1966 in Minneapolis. The couple lived in Minneapolis and Jerry became a parole and probation officer. In 1970, the couple moved to Owatonna and here he served for 33 years as the Director of County Court Services. Jerry was active in Alcoholics Anonymous and was a former member of the Exchange Club. He also served on the Park and Rec Board and Library Board. Jerry died one day short of his 76th birthday. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sharon Peterson of Owatonna; two sons Matt Peterson of DuPont, WA; Dr. Mike (and Melissa) Peterson of Owatonna; a daughter, Dr. Michelle Clark (and Joel Brotherton) of St. Louis MO; a sister, Joy Dunford of Mindenmines, MO; four grandchildren Ryan and Nolan Peterson of Owatonna and Nina and Tessa Clark of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Todd Lundgren officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Alano Club, 605 Florence Ave, Owatonna, MN. 55060.
