Joan Leona Broughten, 85, of Owatonna, died Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. She was born August 18, 1932 in Faribault, Minnesota the daughter of Roman and Irene (Pope) Grubish. She attended school in Waterville and graduated with the Class of 1949. On November 6, 1952, Joan married Burdette Broughten at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. She held various positions over her lifetime including a job at Bell Phone Company as an operator, Brown Printing, then after moving to Owatonna, she worked at the Canning Company and retired from Truth Hardware. Joan was an avid sports fan following the Twins and Vikings. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, flea markets, antique shows, trips to Diamond Jo's and socializing at the Kernel Restaurant. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grand children, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. She is survived by her husband, Burdette Broughten of Owatonna; sons, Robert Broughten of Leroy and Curtis Broughten (Debbie) of Owatonna; daughters, Patricia Broughten Knipping (Howard) of Owatonna, Kathy Broughten of Owatonna and Nancy Morness (Tom) of Owatonna; grandchildren, Jeff Morness (Jamie), Greg Morness (Erin), Sonya Broughten (Dan), Sara Broughten (Scott), Dallas Broughten, Shannon Vick, Lisa Broughten (Richard), Amanda Rios (Louie), Jennifer Matlock (Sam), and Brandy Broughten; 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roman and Irene and sisters, Geraldine Harriman and Donna Michaels. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Saturday, August 18th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna with Deacon Pat Fagan officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
