Joan Oreen Wrolstad, 74, of Kenyon, died Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Abbott Northwestern.
She was born August 21, 1945 in Faribault, Minnesota the daughter of Oscar and Josephine (Floren) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Moland Lutheran Church. She grew up on a farm near Moland and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1963. As a senior, she received the Arion Award for her musical talents. She continued her schooling, earning an LPN degree. Following her schooling, she began her 25 year career as an LPN at Faribault Regional Center. She retired in 1988 when her vision began to decline. Joan married Gerald Howard and they later divorced. Together they had a son, Scott. On October 1, 1993, she married Thomas Wrolstad and made their home in Kenyon.
Joan was a member of Hegre Lutheran Church. She meticulously cared for a number of gravesites of her family members. She enjoyed singing and playing piano, flower gardening, and being outdoors. Hospitality was a gift she enjoyed sharing with those around her. She also had a passion for all animals, especially her cats. She supported the Humane Society and the Disabled Veterans.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Wrolstad of Kenyon; son, Scott Howard (Carol Ciffra) of Faribault; granddaughter, Lindsay Howard of Rochester and great-grandson, Benjamin Martin of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Josephine Peterson and half-brother, Gudmund Floren.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 PM and at Hegre Lutheran Church on Thursday from 1:00-2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held February 13, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Hegre Lutheran Church with Pastor Renita Eidenschink officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the Humane Society.
