Joanne M. Chicos, 80, of West Concord, died Monday, September 23, 2019 at Fairview Care Center, Dodge Center. She was born August 16, 1939 in Kasson the daughter of Harvey and Genevieve (Howe) Knudson. Joanne grew up in Dodge center graduating from Dodge Center High School. She married James Chicos June 1, 1957 at St. John's Catholic Church. The couple made their home near West Concord where they farmed together. She was later divorced. Joanne was a nursing aid at Kenyon Sunset Home for 10 years before operating Chicos Board and Lodge for 20 years. She retired in 2001 and moved to her lake home in Waterville. In 2005, she moved back to West Concord. Joanne enjoyed working part time at Casey's in her retirement. She was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Owatonna Eagle's Club and card club. Joanne enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas and local casinos, crocheting, reading and baking. She loved family get togethers. Joanne delivered meals on wheels and volunteered at the nursing home in Waterville. She is survived by her children, Patty Hortop of Rochester, Pam Thomas of West Concord, Diane (and Mike Leopold) Hortop of Owatonna, Vince (and Stephanie) Chicos of West Concord, Matthew Chicos of Dodge Center, Jeffrey Chicos of West Concord; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie Butler of Dodger Center, Karen Knudson of Dodge Center and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Espenson; granddaughter, Megan Hortop; brother, Robert Knudson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord Chapel on Friday from 4pm to 7pm and at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Saturday from 9am to 10am. Mass of Christian burial will be held September 28, 2019 at 10am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father John Lasuba officiating. Interment will be in the St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in West Concord. Memorials are preferred to St. Vincent De Paul Cemetery and the West Concord Fire and Rescue.
