Obituary

John J. Fischer, 83, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 3, 1926 in White, South Dakota the son of Joseph and Mary (Mulder) Fischer. John grew up in White, SD, and later moved to Lake Benton, MN. John married Marlys Johns March 25, 1947 in Tyler, MN, and the couple then farmed together in Lake Benton. They later moved to Luverne where John worked at IBP Meat Packing Plant. John and Marlys moved to Owatonna in 1981 and he worked at Pillsbury College. John's family was very important to him. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and gardening, was a wonderful cook on the grill, and could repair anything. He is survived by his wife Marlys of Owatonna, daughter, Linda (and John) Meinerts of Owatonna grandchildren Stacy (and John) Schmidt of Owatonna, Andrea (and Donavan) Bailey of Byron, Mike (and Shari) Meinerts of Mantorville. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren Alex, Alyssa, and Austin Schmidt, DJ, and Mariah Bailey, Kylie, and Maddy Meinerts, and one sister Mary (Larry) Johnson of Elk River. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Lena, Annie, and Kay, and five brothers Bill, Rudy, Ailt, Henry, and Richard. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday January 3, 2009 from 3-5 PM and on Monday from 10-11 AM. Funeral service will be held Monday January 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Reverend Ernest Schmidt officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Owatonna Hospice. Visitation: 01/03/2010 15:00 01/03/2010 17:00 Service: and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. 01/04/2010 11:00
