John Fogal, 83, of Owatonna, died Monday, June 10, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. He was born July 23, 1929 in Waldorf, Minnesota, the youngest of 14 children, to Joseph and Anna (Janike) Fogal. He attended school in Waldorf and graduated Waldorf High School in 1949. During high school John worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and after high school he began work at the St. John Grain Company in Waldorf. John married Rosa Tesch on September 21, 1950 at the First Lutheran Church in Waldorf, where they also made their home. He then worked for the Waseca County Road Maintenance Department during which time he continued his education at the DeVry Technical Institute earning a degree in electronics. In 1965, John and Rosa, began Fogal''s TV Sales and Repair in Owatonna and moved their family to Owatonna in 1966. They retired from the business in 1993. John was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Owatonna and former member of First Lutheran Church in Waldorf. He earned his pilots license and flew Pipers and Cessnas. He was a woodcarver and displayed his woodcarvings at the Steele County Free Fair. He was a certified Scuba diver and instructor. He loved to fish and hunt. He pitched baseball in high school and town league and was asked to try out for the Yankees. He is survived by his wife Rosa Fogal of Owatonna; three children, Donna (and Bill) Halverstadt of Corcoran, David Fogal of Waldorf, and Debra (and Jim) Kron of Baxter; twelve grandchildren, Sarah (and Brock) Stai, Daniel Holtan, Mark and Laura Halverstadt, Nicole Griffin-Fogal, Dustyn, Coltyn, and Chantyl Fogal, Stephanie (and Brian) Schlueter, Chelsea Kron, Brittany (and Ben) Wilson, and Bryanna Kron; six great grandchildren, Eero Stai, Jasmine, Camden, Madeline, Liam, and Ophelia Schlueter; two sisters, Katherine Meyer of Waldorf, and Marie Kerbo of Oregon; two brothers, Edward Fogal of Rushford, and William (and Irene) Fogal of Mankato; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Michael Fogal, and nine brothers and sisters. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, June 14, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church with The Reverend Warren Schmidt officiating. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Waldorf. Memorials are preferred to donor''s choice.
