Obituary

John Lent passed away Tuesday September 24th of complications of Multiple Myeloma at Homestead Hospice in Owatonna surrounded by family. John Austin Lent was born 4 February 1934 in Prescott Township near Delavan Minnesota to Austin Lent and Cornelia (Johnson) Lent. John grew up on the family farm loving all that farm life had to offer. John learned about growing plants, machinery, tractors, mischief, crops, farm animals, and was fascinated by anything that had a piston and spark plug. John attended country school and survived an escape through the Armistice Day blizzard. He later graduated from Delavan High School in 1952. He worked for Green Giant canning and soon enlisted in the U.S. Army. John was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood MO and Fort Sill OK. During his service he married Lorraine Delores Olson at Le Sueur River Lutheran Church on January 2nd 1955. During his life John worked as a mechanic at Johnsrud Implement in Albert Lea. Later he hauled crops for Green Giant Foods in Montgomery MN. John finished his work life with the City of Owatonna in the maintenance department covering the overnight watch for the city. Family life meant the world for John. Lorraine and John were challenged by four children. John loved old time music, building things from metal, snowmobiles, camping, repairing anything, and all things related to farming, often helping relatives with field work. Late in life John was an avid tractor collector and shrewd buyer\seller of farm equipment. John enjoyed participating in deer camp in the fall and was a supporter of Blooming Prairie Blossom sports. He loved his small farm in Somerset Township and was always concerned for the plight of farmers. John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lorraine; four children, Rick (Elizabeth) of Owatonna; Greg (Lori) of Kronenwetter, WI, Sue (Don) Nelson of Blooming Prairie, and Janet (David) Nelson of Owatonna; grandchildren, Kelly (Brian) Seubert, Darby (Jay) Throne, Cooper (Shelby) Nelson and Delaney Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Abby, Kylie and Landyn; sister, Ruthann (Don) Chilson of Rush City, MN; sister-in-law, Nadine Strenge of Geneva, and many nieces, nephews and treasured friends.
