John Arthur Mullenmaster, age 96, passed away at Homestead Hospice House on February 3, 2013. John was born in Owatonna, MN on July 22, 1916 to Arthur and Whilaminna Mullenmaster. He graduated from the Owatonna High School in 1934 and continued his studies at Michigan State University. John married Blanche Kaplan of Owatonna in 1941. They had three children and were married for 36 years until Blanche's death in 1977. He worked for the J.C. Penney Company in Owatonna until he enlisted in the Air Corp in 1942. He served his country for three years, training flight crews for jungle survival, oxygen training, techniques for finding water and cold weather survival. After coming home from the war in 1945, John was employed by the Owatonna Tool Company. He took over as Vice President-Director of Marketing in 1958. John retired from OTC in May of 1979 and a few years later, decided to become a resident of Naples, Florida. Some of John's interests were traveling, golf (he shot 3 hole-in-ones), antique collecting (especially clocks), restoring antique cars, fishing and boating and mowing acres of grass on his beloved Ford 8N tractor. John was a member of Steele County Historical Society, American Legion, Owatonna Arts Center, Owatonna Country Club, Imperial Golf Club of Naples, Antique Car Club of Naples and a Life Member of the Owatonna Elks Club. Survivors include his companion of 35 years, Rita Stilwell, 1 son, John K. (Teresa) Mullenmaster of Wautoma, WI; 2 daughters, Lorri R. (Mike) Kneeland of Brainerd, MN, and Kathy L. (Richard Dicks) Mullenmaster of Owatonna, MN; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. John also had a special relationship with the Velazquez family from Mexico City and he considered them his "adopted" family. John was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Minnie; his wife, Blanche; a brother, Don Mullenmaster; and a grandson, John R. Mullenmaster. A Memorial Service will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday February 15, 2013 at 2:00 P.M.with Kathy Diedrich officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Internment will be at The Bohemian Cemetery in Owatonna with honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. The family prefers that memorials be donated to The American Cancer Society or Homestead Hospice House of Owatonna.
