John A. Vierling, 91, of Owatonna, died Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Homestead Hospice House. He was born December 27, 1919 in Faribault, Minnesota the son of Frank and Rosa (Stoffel) Vierling. He attended catholic school in Faribault. In 1936, he moved with his family to rural Owatonna where they farmed. John entered the United States Army and served two years stateside until his honorable discharge. Upon return from the service, John farmed in Havana and Merton Township. He retired from farming in 1980. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna. He enjoyed watching television and was an avid football and baseball fan. He is survived by four nephews, Toby Vierling of Owatonna, Kevin Vierling of Owatonna, David Vierling of Burnsville, and Alfred Tix of San Fransisco, CA; one niece, Shirley Peck of Hudson, FL; great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Sylvia Vierling of Owatonna. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Rosemary Tix, three brothers, Francis, Alvin, and Donald Vierling, and two nephews, Ken Vierling and Jim Tix. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM . Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Andrew Vogel officiating. Interment will be in the Dania Cemetery, Havana Township. Military honors will be provided by Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
