Jon Virgil Peglow, 74, of Owatonna, died Friday, February 16, 2018 at Owatonna Hospital of complications from a courageous 34 year journey with cancer.
He was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa on October 8, 1943 the son of Glen and Ella (Eaton) Peglow. He attended school in Ruthven and graduated from Algona High School in 1962. Following his schooling, he worked as a hired hand for a local farmer before joining the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he lived in California where he began his career in the telecommunications field. He later transferred to Owatonna and worked at Northwestern Bell, US West, Quest and Century Link for 35 years. While living in Owatonna, Jon met and married Karen Brandvold in 1979. The couple has lived their entire married life in Owatonna. Jon was a volunteer fireman for 17 years and a member of the American Legion, Eagles and Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed being a grandpa along with spending time outdoors fishing, hunting and golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Peglow of Owatonna; sons, Jeff Peterson of Fort Worth, TX and Paul (Jessica) Peglow of Lakeville; granddaughters, Raquel and Ella Peglow; siblings, Harvey (Pat) Peglow of Owatonna and Helen Turpin of Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law, Bill English of Midlothian, VA, nieces and nephews and his two dogs Martha and Louie.
He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Ella and a sister, Marilyn English.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at church on Thursday one hour prior to the service. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Todd Buegler officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
