Obituary

Joseph O. Kvittem 91, of Kenyon died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Kenyon Sunset Home. He was born July 30, 1917 to Adolph and Sophia (Haugen) Kvittem in Cherry Grove Township. Joseph attended country school in Cherry Grove Township where, in his own words, he had to 'unlearn Norwegian to learn English'. After completing the eighth grade, he then stayed home to help on the family farm and started his own trucking business in 1937. He served with the United States Army from 1942-1945 in Italy and North Africa, earning the Bronze Star medal for bravery. Upon his return, he continued his trucking and custom corn shelling business. He began farming in earnest with his brother John upon his father''s passing in 1950. He married Barbara Ann Romo on July 19, 1959, and they raised their family on the home farm in Kenyon. The couple later divorced. He was a lifelong, devoted member of Dale Lutheran Church, serving on the council and various committees. Farming was his first love but he thoroughly enjoyed fishing and watching the Twins in his spare time. He was proud of his family and loved spending time visiting with his brothers. Joseph is survived by his four children Terri (Robert) Prondzinski of Kenyon, David Kvittem of Kenyon, Joanne (Darrin) Corbin of Northfield and Leann (Randy) Tatge of Nerstrand, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Joseph is also survived by four brothers: Alvin (Ruth Ann) of Wanamingo, Johnny (Helen) of Wanamingo, Milton (Jeanne) of Blaine, and Duane (Carol) of Winnebago, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ervin and Myron, and two sisters. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home- Kenyon on Sunday August 3, 2008 from 4-6 PM and at Dale Lutheran Church on Monday August 4, 2008 from 10-11 AM. Funeral service will be held Monday August 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Dale Lutheran Church with the Reverend Michael Lockerby officiating. Interment will be in the Dale Lutheran Cemetery with military honors provided by the Kenyon Veterans Color Guard. Memorials are preferred to Dale Lutheran Church.
