Obituary

Joseph 'Joe' L. Cullip, 90, of rural West Concord, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Kenyon Sunset Home in Kenyon. Joe was born January 6, 1920 in Story City, Iowa, the son of Joseph Henry and Mary (Geer) Cullip. At the age of two, he moved with his family to rural West Concord where he attended country school. He married Carla Broin on October 28, 1941 at the Little Cannon Church. The couple farmed together in rural West Concord until retiring in 1982 and they moved to West Concord. Through the years Joe and Carla extensively traveled by car and RV across the Western United States. Joe was a member of Moland Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He also served on Moland Creamery Board and was Supervisor for Ellington Township. Throughout his life Joe enjoyed his motorcycle, earned his pilot license to fly his own airplane and when he sold it operated radio controlled airplanes. He also enjoyed woodworking and crafts. The most treasured thing in Joe''s life was family, especially his three granddaughters, Sara, Rinda, and Krista Van Zuilen. He is survived by his daughter, Dawn (and Rick) Van Zuilen of rural West Concord; granddaughters, Sara Van Zuilen of Jacksonville, FL, Rinda Van Zuilen of Norfolk, VA, and Krista Van Zuilen of Owatonna. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carla, five brothers, James, William, Harold, Herschel, Edward and three sisters, Mary Erler, Gertrude Wiltsey and Amy Commerford. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home-Kenyon on Friday, November 19 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and at Moland Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday November 20 at 10:30 AM at Moland Lutheran Church with The Reverend Nancy Edwardson officiating. Interment will be in the Little Cannon Cemetery.
