Joseph Lawrence Murry, 64, of Dennison, died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.
He was born October 21, 1953 in Olivia the son of Laurence and Lorraine (Olson) Murry. Joe graduated from Kenyon High School in 1972. He attended Vo-Tech and completed two Associate Degrees. He worked for Foldcraft prior to starting his 41 year career with Sheldahl which is now called Multek. On August 12, 1989 he married Mary Hughes at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kenyon. The couple resided on the family farm in Sogn Valley where he grew up and where they still live today.
Joe was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kenyon where he served in many capacities. He was a lector for nearly 50 years, served on the church council, the cemetery board, was a religious education teacher and bingo caller. He served on the Warsaw Township Planning Commission. Joe had a passion for basketball and enjoyed coaching a traveling AAU team. He was also a world class foosball player in the 1970's and 1980's. Joe still loved foosball and enjoyed playing in a national tournament in Colorado in 2016. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching old westerns, working with youth and trips to the north shore. Joe was a man of strong character. He offered compliments and encouragement to others and believed in treating others with fairness. Joe was very proud of his daughters, loved being a dad and always made time for his daughters' activities.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Murry of Dennison; daughters, Joy (and Fiance Andrew Schultz) Murry of New Brighton, Kate Murry of Dennison, Anna Murry of Dennison; brothers, Timothy Murry of Kenyon, John Murry of Texas, Tom (and Patricia) Murry of Northfield; sister, Barbara (and Doug) Story of Kenyon; mother in law, Caryl Hughes of Faribault; sisters in law, Shelley (and Kyle) Fleming of Waseca, Teresa Leite of Volga, SD, Patricia Hughes-Guillen of Faribault and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father in law, Terrence Hughes; one infant brother and one infant sister.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Thursday from 4pm to 8pm and at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kenyon on Friday from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11am at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kenyon with Reverend Kevin Kenney officiating. Interment will be in the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Kenyon.
