Obituary

Josephine Jay E. Underdahl, 96, of Kenyon, died Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Kenyon Sunset Home in Kenyon, Minnesota. Jay was born September 27, 1920 in Yorklyn, Delaware the daughter of Palmer and Ethel (Hobson) Guest. She graduated from high school in Yorklyn, Delware and attended business college. Jay met her future husband, Leonard Underdahl, through a mutual friend as he was serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. They were married on October 21, 1944 in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1950, they moved to the Underdahl family farm in Moland, Minnesota and later moved to Kenyon in 1962. After they moved off the farm Jay worked at Vermilyea Department Store, Flom Department Store, and jewelry stores in Kenyon. She also worked for Ag Reliant Genetics Seed Corn Company counting seeds until the age of 86 years. Jay became a resident of the Kenyon Sunset Home in March of 2014. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, and baking. She loved hosting family dinners and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star, and First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon. She is survived by her two sons, Mark (and Sue) Underdahl of Byron, Guy (and Rita) Underdahl of Rock Hill, SC; four grandchildren, Kara (and Chris) Ideen, Dana (and Chad) O'Brien, Kelsey Underdahl, and Kayla Underdahl; five great grandchildren, Keeleigh, Lena and Juniper, Lily and Liam; sister, Phyllis Sparks of Wilmington, Delaware; sister-in-law, Hazel Musgjerd of Kenyon; brother-in-law, Gene (and Haven) Underdahl of Burbank, CA; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of more than 50 years, Leonard; two sisters, Alice Wilson and Marguerite Marsey; one brother, Edgar Guest. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon on Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon with The Reverend Heather Culuris officiating. Interment will be in the Moland Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Kenyon VFW Auxiliary, First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon, or donor's choice.
