Joyce Annette Bettermann, 65, of Owatonna, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Homestead Hospice House after dealing with liver cancer. She was born June 13, 1942 on a farm in Douglas County the daughter of Ernest and Edna (Bergquist) Wicklund. Joyce grew up in a rural area and attended a Douglas County rural school for 8 years. She than went to Kensington High School. She also attended the Faribault Technical College to study sales, marketing and management for one year and graduated with a two year degree in administrative secretarial. She worked in a fabric store in Alexandria and also at the Fashionette (a ready-to-wear store for women) for two years. She then met and married Harry Bettermann of Brandon. The couple lived in Alexandria until they moved to Owatonna in 1967. Joyce worked at First Bank and sold Avon and Tupperware for several years. She also operated a small sewing business out of her home for weddings, alterations, and medical supplies. Joyce and Harry were charter members of the Steele Steppers Square Dance Club. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church until 1991 and then became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ruth Circle. She started a red hat club with her friends. Joyce enjoyed reading Christian fiction, dancing, sewing, crafts, and beading. She also enjoyed music and sang at nursing homes and senior centers. In addition, she enjoyed traveling around the countryside with Harry, especially to Branson, MO. She is survived by her husband, Harry Bettermann of Owatonna; daughter, Gail (and Mark) Zollner of Owatonna; son, Bradley (and Tonia) Bettermann of Owatonna; grandchildren, Rebecca Ann, Lillian Marie, Kassandra Ann, Clint Robert; brothers, Earl (and Shirley) Wicklund of International Falls, James Wicklund of Alexandria, Bruce (and Shirley) Wicklund of Kensington; sister, Darlene 'Ditto' (and Howard) Hennen of Donnelly and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 brother and 1 nephew. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-8 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday from 1-2 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Oscar Lake Swedish Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, Homestead Hospice House, caringbridge.org, or the donor''s choice.
