June Rosaline (Iverson) Anderson, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt, died Friday, May 8, 2015 at Clare Bridge of West Saint Paul-Brookdale. She was 91 years of age. The resurrection service in celebration of her life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Owatonna, Minnesota on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Visitation is one hour before the service. Private burial will be held at Fort Snelling Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
June was born June 11, 1923 in Blooming Grove Township, Waseca County, Minnesota the daughter of James and Leora (Carlton) Iverson, the third of five children. She graduated from Waseca High School in 1940 and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Mankato State Teachers College, Mankato, Minnesota in 1965.
She was united in marriage with Gordon Keith Anderson of West Concord, Minnesota on June 8, 1947. For the first seven years of their marriage, they farmed near Kenyon, Minnesota. In 1954 they moved to Owatonna, Minnesota, where Gordon began work with the Owatonna Canning Company. June taught elementary school for many years. Before she was married, she taught in Minnesota Lake and Jackson, Minnesota, and also led jazz dance and choral groups. After her children had begun school, she taught elementary school in Claremont, Minnesota.
June had a kind heart and a steadfast faith. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna where she belonged to a Trinity circle, altar guild, and choir, taught Sunday school, and was a board member of MEHH at Trinity Church. June was civic-minded, contributing through volunteering and involvement in community activities. She was a board member of League of Women Voters, Steele County Historical Society, and the Owatonna Women's Club. She was a member and officer of the Steele County Retired Teachers and a participant in the Women's Health Initiative for Cancer Research. June loved to sing, play piano, and tap dance. She participated in many choral groups over the course of her life, both as a singer and as a piano accompanist.
In the final years of her life, June benefited from the compassionate and loving care of the staff of Clare Bridge Memory Care Center (Brookdale Housing), West Saint Paul, for which we are grateful.
June is survived by four children: Bonnie (Dennis) Walter of Eagan, MN; Barbara Loken of Mendota Heights, MN; Richard (Carolyn) Anderson of Plymouth, MN; Jacqueline (Gerald) Loye of Inver Grove Heights, MN; six grandchildren, Anthony (JoAnn) Cudo of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Martin (Veronica) Cudo of Farmington, MN; Charles Anderson of Minneapolis, MN; Diana Walter of West St. Paul, MN; Matthew Walter of Eagan, MN; and Elizabeth Diebel of Rochester, NY; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, who died on June 28, 1986, and by her brothers, Edgar Iverson and Harry Iverson, and her sisters, Lois (Iverson) Mjolhus and Ruth (Iverson) Kozan. . Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church of Owatonna, Minnesota, to cancer research, or to donor's choice. Arrangements by Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna.
