June Jeanette Sweet, 99, of Owatonna, died on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Benedictine Living Community surrounded by her family.
She was born on August 31, 1926, in Albert Lea, the daughter of John and Lydia (Case) Stofer. Growing up, June's family moved frequently, allowing her to experience the communities of Elko, Faribault, Dundas, Albert Lea, and Farmington, Minnesota. On April 19, 1946, June married the love of her life, Roland Sweet, whom she met while working in Northfield. They raised a family of nine children together until his passing in 1988. During their marriage, June and Roland attended several police dinners and picnics together.
June was a hard worker, whether it was working as a cook at The Kitchen in Owatonna, a waitress at Happ's Pizza, a bus driver, or a crossing guard for the Owatonna Public Schools on Main Street. When she wasn't working or taking care of her family, June enjoyed her flowers and gardening, especially strawberries; she was a member of Tops, a weight loss group for older women where she socialized along with being secretary of Peppy Club, a social club for women. June was also an active member for many years at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Owatonna.
She is survived by her children: Katy Sammon, Peggy (and Ray) Bohn, Linda (and Mike) Eaton, Cheryl Matson, Denise (and Paul) Burshem, Connie (and Wayne) Ryg, John Sweet, and Tom (and Jamie) Sweet; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Reese and Marsha McColley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland; infant son, Kenneth C.; two brothers, Glen (Kitty) Stofer and Harold Stofer; infant great-grandson, Brooks Bohn; sons-in-law, Dennis Sammon and Jason Matson; and Roland’s parents and siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna. A visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of service. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
