Obituary

Karen Faye Grubisch, 75, of Owatonna, died Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Homestead Hospice House following a courageous cancer journey. She was born December 15, 1941 in Owatonna the daughter of Arlie and Laurene (Buehring) Cozad. She attended school in Owatonna and graduated from Owatonna High School, Class of 1960. On December 1, 1958, she married James Jim Peter Grubisch in Mason City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Owatonna where they raised their two daughters. Karen was employed at Truth in Owatonna and attended night school at Dakota County Tech College during this time. She also worked as a travel agent and later in consumer research. Karen and Jim moved to Las Vegas in 1996 and to the Seattle area in 2001. In 2013, they returned to Owatonna and Karen retired. Karen enjoyed people. She loved interacting with people while traveling and especially while conducting consumer research. Her work as a travel agent allowed her to travel with Jim to many places in the world, including much of the United States, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong and even China. Karen was an excellent cook. Even though she had numerous cook books, she only used them as ideas, always making the recipe her own. She is survived by her husband, Jim Grubisch of Owatonna; daughters, Julie (Joe) Palubicki of Winona and Amy (Scott) Towle of Owatonna; two granddaughters, Terry (Justin Karow) Towle of Faribault and Sydney Towle of Owatonna; one great-granddaughter, Aideen Karow of Faribault and a brother, Ed (Ruth) Cozad of Owatonna and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Karen's family would like to thank the care givers at Allina Hospice and Homestead Hospice House for their attentive care. A visitation will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 4-6 PM and at the funeral home on Thursday one hour prior to the service. A Memorial Service will be held at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Reverend Alex Becker officiating. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna.
