Kathleen Joanne Brooks, 80, of Owatonna, died Friday, March 16, 2012, in her home. Kathleen Kubicek was born in Owatonna on December 13, 1931, the daughter of Peter and Olga (Jesperson) Kubicek. Here she was raised and attended school graduating from Owatonna High School in 1949. While in high school, she began working at Woolworth''s in Owatonna. She was united in marriage to William 'Bill' Brooks on September 21, 1963 at Our Savior''s Lutheran Church. Kathleen took a few years off from working at Woolworth''s to raise their sons and after the boys began school, she returned to Woolworth''s and worked there until it''s closing in 1989. Kathleen then worked at Owatonna High School for several years. Her husband Bill died in July 2009. She is survived by two sons, Troy (and Chris) of Owatonna, Drew (and Cindy) Brooks of Kansas City, MO; special house cat Ginger, four grandchildren Amber, Michaela, Jocelyn, Lydia, and a sister-in-law Ora Kubicek of Owatonna. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, a brother, Richard Kubicek, three sisters, Bernadine Peterson, Mae Schuler and Mary Huberg. Kathleen enjoyed reading and making an occasional trip to the casinos. She was an avid Twins and Vikings fan and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was a member of Our Savior''s Lutheran Church, Owatonna. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, March 19, 2012, from 4-7 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at 11 AM at Our Savior''s Lutheran Church with Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens, Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior''s Lutheran Church or the Steele County Humane Society.
