Kathleen Kathy Kay Kelling, 72, of Owatonna, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, Minnesota, after a courageous battle with ampullary cancer. Kathleen was born October 31, 1942 in Morris, Minnesota the daughter of Leon and Mary (Wille) Staples. She graduated from Morris High School on June 3, 1960 and from Abbott Hospital School of Nursing on June 30, 1963. Kathy married Jim Kelling on August 24, 1963 at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris. The couple lived in Waseca. In 1966, Kathy and Jim moved to Owatonna where she spent the rest of her life. Kathy worked as a Registered Nurse at the Owatonna Hospital for 43 years. For most of her life, she enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing with family and friends. Kathy was also an avid reader and liked knitting and crocheting. Later in life, Kathy and Jim enjoyed taking trips to casinos and cherishing time with their grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Kathy is survived by her husband, Jim Kelling of Owatonna; three sons, Kevin (Christine) Kelling of Owatonna, Keith Kelling of Owatonna, and Brian (Jill Hebert) Kelling of Medford, WI; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, two nephews and one grandchild. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home. The family requests casual dress only.
