Kenneth Elmer Deetz, 71, of Owatonna, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Homestead Hospice House. He was born July 27, 1937 in Sumner, IA the son of Elmer and Florence (Lewig) Deetz. Ken graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids, IA. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1958. Ken married Nancy Elvers August 27, 1961 in Elkader, IA. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids following their marriage. While in Cedar Rapids Ken worked for Collins Radio prior to becoming a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Iowa City, IA. In 1986, the couple moved to Owatonna and Ken worked in Eagan as a letter carrier until retiring in 1992. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Ken enjoyed traveling and camping. He took several cruises and visited every state in the union. He loved bowling and enjoyed history and reading. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Deetz of Owatonna; son, Mark (and Nancy) Deetz of Omaha, NE; daughter, Donna (and Michael) Petersen of Marion, IA; grandchildren, Matthew Deetz, Lauren Deetz, Claire Deetz, Ted Petersen, Charlie Petersen; sister, Evelyn (and Stanley) Riha of Cedar Rapids, IA. Ken is also survived by nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-7pm and at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Monday from 11:00am to 12:00pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1, 2009 at 12:00pm at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with The Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior''s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the donor''s choice.
