Obituary

Dr. Kenneth G. Henry , 98, formerly of Owatonna, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington. He was born December 26, 1920 at the family home in Fremont Township of Winona County the son of George and Ida (Firth) Henry. He was educated in country schools and later graduated from high school in Lewiston. He attended business college in Winona, prior to entering the U.S. Navy in 1942. Ken served as a Navy medical corpsman in South Pacific combat. Following his military service, he returned to Minnesota in 1945, then entering the University of Minnesota undergraduate premedical program and later the Medical School, from which he graduated in 1952. Kenneth met his wife, Doris, at the University, and they married on September 10, 1949. He completed a medical internship at the Ancker Hospital in St. Paul in 1953 before joining the medical practice of Dr. Dewey in Owatonna. After two years he began a solo practice in Owatonna. His brother, Dr. John C. Henry, practiced with him in the Henry Clinic in Owatonna, until "Dr. Ken" retired from medical practice in 1987. While practicing medicine in Owatonna, he delivered more than 2000 babies, performed general medical and surgical therapies as a general practitioner. He then supported the art business of his wife, Doris, in shows at which she sold fine original calligraphic and water color works, until 1991. A life-long Presbyterian, he served as an elder in the Associated Church. He was a Freemason. Ken and Doris moved to the Presbyterian Homes elder apartments in Bloomington in 2013. Ken always had an interest in horticulture. He enjoyed the small green house that he built at his home where he was able to grow plants year round. He also enjoyed doing his own landscaping and planting trees on his property. Ken loved classical music. He cherished time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Doris Henry of Bloomington; son, Tom (and Michelle) Henry of Edina; daughters, Mary Henry of Nevada City, CA, Suzette Paisley of Rocklin, CA; grandchildren, Kenneth (and Amy Garmaker) Henry, Katharine Henry, Julia Guzy, Sarah Guzy, Heidi (and Chris) Keefer, Hayley Zimmerman; great -grandson, Jonathan Jeffery Keefer; brother, Dr. John C. Henry of Owatonna and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Henry, Charles Henry and sister, Amy Knutson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 4pm to 8pm and at Associated Church on Saturday from 9am to 10am. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 10am at Associated Church with Rev. Coqui Conkey officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the family to be used for Macular Degeneration Research at the University of Minnesota.
