Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Jones, 86, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Owatonna Hospital. Ken was born January 31, 1930 in Howard County, north of Lime Springs, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Ellen (Swift) Jones. Before graduating from High School, he shoveled coal for different businesses. Ken graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1948. After graduation, he worked for Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa. Ken enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1951 to 1954. He married Kathleen Doris Smith on November 12, 1952. After being discharged from the Navy, they moved to Owatonna where he started working for Gateway Transportation Company until 1983. He then worked for Owatonna Public Schools from 1983 to 1985. Ken was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Ken enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, bowling, hunting, baseball, and traveling. He also enjoyed cars, and collecting toy tractors, cars, and semis. Ken was a life time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Jones of Owatonna; three children, Debra (and Duane) Klecker of Owatonna, Dean (and Peggy) Jones of Owatonna, and Denise (and Mike) Meixner of Owatonna; daughter-in-law, Susan Jones of Spring Valley; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (and Andre) Jay, Travis Jones, Jared (and Alicyn) Prestegard, Tim (and Whitney) Jones, Katie Jones, Samantha and Dillon Meixner; three step grandchildren, Jason (and Angela) Klecker, Scott (and Tiffany) Klecker, and Stacy (and Mike) Burton; two great grandchildren; Mitchell Jay, and Lily Prestegard; nine step great grandchildren; brother, Roger (and Marlene) Jones of Coolidge, AZ; sister, Betty (and Earl) Walker of Harmony; many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dale Jones; infant son, Keith Jones; brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Esther Jones; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Owatonna with The Reverend Amanda Weinkauf officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna with full military honors conducted by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
