Larry James Kunkel, 76, of Owatonna, was perfectly healed by Jesus Christ, taking him home on Wednesday June 7, 2023. He died peacefully at his home in Owatonna.

He was born in Brainerd, Minnesota, on September 21, 1946, the son of Ross and Ethel (Schultz) Kunkel. He grew up in Brainerd and graduated from Brainerd High School. Larry then entered the US Air Force and served from 1965 to 1969 at the US missile bases in Montana. Following his service he returned to Minnesota and attended St. Cloud State where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. On July 10, 1971, he was united in marriage to Marla Ahlgrim. They moved to Owatonna where they spent most of their married life. Larry had a successful career at Viracon. Larry loved the Lord first, his wife, sons, grandchildren, family and friends. He enjoyed golf, competitive games, bible study, creative painting and helping others. He was a fine man with a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Marla Kunkel of Owatonna, sons Chay (Roberta) Kunkel of Duluth, and Paul Kunkel of Jordan; grandchildren Noah and Kali Kunkel; step-granddaughter Kaija, and sister Beverly Collette of Boise, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents Ross and Ethel, brother Robert Kunkel and a brother-in-law Roy Collette.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 4 to 7:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 15th at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Dania Cemetery with military honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials to be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for Good Shepherd Lutheran sponsored missionary Elisante John Sandy in Africa.
