Larry E. Schaefer, 76, of Kasson, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Homestead Hospice House of Owatonna.
He was born December 26, 1940 in West Concord, Minnesota the son of Everett and Minnie (Koop) Schaefer. He was baptized at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Mantorville on January 19, 1941. In 1958, Larry graduated from West Concord High School. He continued his education at Ag School in Waseca through the University of Minnesota. He worked at Mathias Dairy after his schooling. Larry married Sandra Anderson and the couple farmed north of West Concord where they raised their family. They later divorced. He married Kathy Limberg on September 23, 2000 and they made their home in Kasson. Larry farmed and watched sports 24-7. As a teenager he helped build St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in West Concord hauling brick. His memberships include DHIA where he served as president for several years, Junior Dodge County Holstein Association which he helped establish, Minnesota Holstein Association, South Fork Homeowners Association where he served as president for five years; he served on the Dodge County Fair Board for 29 years with 15 as president and then four years as honorary member and he helped establish the Dodge County Ribbon Auction. He also was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Kasson where he served as a trustee and on the building committee.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Schaefer of Kasson; children, Lori Schaefer of Minneapolis, Lisa Sherrington of Red Wing, Tom (Amy) Schaefer of Melrose, WI, Tim (Dani) Schaefer of Arizona, Tracy Schaefer of Fairfax and Kristine (Ben) Lyman of Seattle, WA; step-children, Tim (Kristin) Limberg of Rochester, Jean (Rick) Fischer of Litchfield, Scott (Lynn) Limberg of Owatonna and Chris (Theresa) Limberg of Faribault; siblings, Darlean Smith of Rochester, Lorraine Flicek of Kasson and Pat (Larry) Smith of Pine Island; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Minnie; sister, Margaret (Rollie) Baudoin and brother-in-law, Les Smith.
A visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kasson on Sunday, December 10th from 2-6 PM and on Monday one hour prior to Mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kasson with Father John Lausba and Father Charlie Collins concelebrating. Interment will be in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in West Concord.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred and will be directed to Larry's favorite charities.
