Laurel A. Grunwald, 86, of Blooming Prairie, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Cedarview Care Center. He was born September 14, 1923 in Steele Center the son of Arthur and Pearl (Thompson) Grunwald. He moved with his family near Ellendale where he attended District 34 School, completed one year of high school and enjoyed fishing at Beaver Lake. He worked on the family farm following his schooling. On June 24, 1947 he married Maurene M. Borchert at Trinity Lutheran Church near Blooming Prairie. The couple farmed together working hard to tile and improve their farmland. An accident forced his retirement in 1992. He loved to farm the land but he also milked cows and raised hogs, sheep and chickens. He enjoyed raising, riding and working with his horses. He loved John Deere farm machinery. Laurel was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hope where he was confirmed. After his marriage he joined Trinity Lutheran Church. He spent many hours taking down old trees and planting new trees for wind breaks on his land. Laurel is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maurene M. Grunwald of Blooming Prairie; daughters, Linda (and Mel) Tollefsrud of Rochester, Diane (and Terry) Nelson of Owatonna; grandchildren, Jesse Tollefsrud of Ft. Collins, CO, John Tollefsrud of Ft. Collins, CO, Jenny Nelson of Lake City, Chad Nelson of Owatonna; great grandson, Owen Tollefsrud; brother, James (and Helen) Grunwald of Owatonna and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maxine Anderson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan 2, 2010 from 9:30am to 11:00am. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11:00am at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Paul Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, rural Blooming Prairie. Memorials are preferred to trinity Lutheran Church, rural Blooming Prairie or to the donor''s choice.
