LaVerl Mildred Hansen, 90, of Owatonna, died Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
She was born December 12, 1928 near Mountain Lake the daughter of Alfred and Anna (Ploehn) Gohr. LaVerl graduated from Garden City High School in 1946. She attended Mankato State College and later Northwestern Institute of Medical Technology. She worked for the Osceola Hospital in Sibley, IA before moving to Owatonna in 1950 and starting her 30-year career with Dr. Ted Stransky, working as a medical technician. On June 21, 1952 LaVerl married George Hansen and they had one daughter, Barbara. The couple enjoyed spending time at their trailer on Rice Lake and wintering in Arizona prior to George's death in 1990. LaVerl married Bert Nelson in 1992. Bert preceded her in death in February of 2019.
LaVerl enjoyed bridge club, sewing, crafts and traveling. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and later Pontoppidan Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (and Jon) Ross of Owatonna; granddaughters, Erica (and Jake) Childs of Huntington Beach, CA, Lindsey (and Weston) Burr of Mantorville; great grandchildren, Mila Childs, Teegan Childs, Lana Burr and Elliot Burr.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, two half-sisters and two half-brothers.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11am at Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Hegal officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
