Lavern Delmar Ehlers, 77, of Owatonna, died Sunday, December 31, 2017 at his home. He was born August 22, 1940 in Nevada Township the son of Arnold and Amelia (Denker) Ehlers. Lavern was baptized Sept. 1, 1940 and confirmed June 12, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dexter Township. He farmed with his family on their dairy farm in Mower County until his mother's death in 1972, at which time he moved to Owatonna and started working for OMC until 1988. Lavern married Eunice Jackel Oct. 25, 1975 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Claremont. Lavern finished his career working for McNeilus Truck & Mfg from 1989 until his spinal cord accident in 2008. Lavern enjoyed helping others. He would mow grass and shovel snow for those that needed help, he helped his son, Dennis by volunteering with Special Olympics, he helped his son Delmar farming, and he was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Lavern enjoyed singing and spending time with his family, grandchildren and neighbors. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Ehlers of Owatonna; sons, Delmar (Kristin) Ehlers of Blooming Prairie, Dennis Ehlers of Owatonna; grandchildren, Tylor, Ethan, Zoe, Otto, Louis, Hugo; great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brody; brother, Ray (Kathy) Ehlers of Edina; brothers-in-law, Donald (Barbara) Jackel of Austin, David (Dorthy) Jackel of Claremont; sister-in-law, Blythe Ehlers of Rockford, IA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Arnold, Jr., Marvin; sisters, Dorthea, Ella. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10:30am at St. John's Lutheran Church, Claremont with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
