Lawrence Wesley Hughes, 84, of Faribault, died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at St. Lucas Convalescent Center, Faribault. He was born February 8, 1927 in West Concord, Minnesota the son of Joseph and Mary (Pirkl) Hughes. Following his father''s death at a young age Lawrence went to work for International Implement and later drove truck for Lester Erickson. Lawrence married Ida Brown May 18, 1949 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Claremont. The couple lived in Kenyon for a short time prior to moving to West Concord. Lawrence worked several years at the Mobile Gas Station, Blaisdell Ford and for Clayton Bishop as a mechanic. He also had the chance to be self employed as owner and operator of Hughes Towing and Repair. He served as a part time police officer for two years in West Concord. Lawrence was proud to have been on the fire and ambulance crew of West Concord for about twenty five years. He is survived by sons, Mike (and Laura) Hughes of Kasson, Richard (and Mal Kwi) Hughes of Texarkana, TX, James (and Tammy) Hughes of Sartell; daughters, Kathleen (and Edward) Roehrick of Faribault, Pat Willing of Owatonna, Margery Lovejoy of Rochester; grandchildren, Brian (and Nicole) Hughes, Timothy Hughes, Ashley Hughes, Shawn (and Michele) Dorn, Teresa Dorn, Ryan (and Tara) Dorn, Beth (and Joel) Akason, Carynn Roehrick, Jonathan Roehrick, Gina Hughes, Jeremiah and Katrina Lovejoy, Joshua, Natalie, Jacob and Kaylee Hughes; great grandchildren, Andrew Dorn, Courtney Gibbons, Emily Jarnagan, Taylor and Sydney Dorn, Brenna and Morgan Akason; brothers, Bill (and Pat) Hughes of Kasson, Bud (Charlotte) Hughes of Kasson and nieces and nephews. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Ida; daughter, Nancy; grandson, Stevie; sister, Alice. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday from 1pm to 2pm. Memorial services will be held Monday, September 19, 2011 at 2pm at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.
