LeeRoy C. Cowing, 78, of San Tan Valley, Arizona died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the Banner Heart Hospital in Arizona. LeeRoy was born June 21, 1934 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Clifford and Mazel (Kuphal) Cowing. He graduated from the Owatonna High School then went to work for the railroad. LeeRoy joined the Army and served in Germany for two years. After the Army, he went to work for State Farm Insurance in St. Paul, MN. He married Marianne Warner in 1961. They moved to Owatonna and LeeRoy worked as a Metropolitan Agent for 2 years, then started with State Farm Insurance and worked as an agent in Owatonna for 37 years. LeeRoy and Marianne retired to San Tan Valley, AZ twelve years ago, where they have enjoyed their retirement. LeeRoy was a member of the American Legion, Elks and Eagles. He enjoyed music and played in a band for a few years. He entertained family and friends with his singing, playing guitar and Karaoke sessions. LeeRoy also enjoyed traveling, with many trips to Branson, MO., his favorite place to visit, as well as trips around the USA and other parts of the world. He also loved to go to movies. LeeRoy is survived by his wife, Marianne; two daughters, Deya (and Greg) Jacobson of Elbow Lake, and Darcy Cowing-Frank of Battle Lake; five grandchildren, Travis Fosness of Alexandria, Sierra Fosness a college student in Moorhead, Taylor Frank a college student in Minneapolis, Kelsey Frank a High School Senior in Battle Lake, and Carter Frank an 8th grade student in Battle Lake; two step grandchildren, Tyler Jacobson( and Jackie) of Otsego, and Trista Jacobson of Baxter. He is also survived by cousins, MaeBelle Hillestad and Donald Arndt, Peggy and Scott Felstead and family, LeeAnn and Brad Stillwagon and family, Mike and Holly Arndt and family, all of Owatonna, Shannon and Harlan Pierson and family of Apache Junction, AZ, Chris and Jeri Hillestad and family of Wayzata, Sue Kuphal Schroeder, Crystal and Jason Wencl and family of Owatonna, and Devon Kuphal of Austin; very good friend and LeeRoy''s long time secretary, Audrey Arndt of Owatonna; Katie Billie of Fort Pierce, FL, a cousin of LeeRoy''s father''s side of the family; Marianne''s brothers and sisters, Albert and Elaine Warner and family of Northfield, Alice Story and family of Los Carlos, CA, Margaret and John Palan and family of Woodbury, Judy Anderson and family of St. Paul Park, Dennis Warner and family of Madison, WI, and Carol and Keith Duncan and family of Albert Lea. He was preceded in death by his parents and cousins, Roger Kuphal, Robert Billie, Merlin Hillestad, and Jackie Arndt, and brother-in-law, William Warner, Roland Story, and Donald Anderson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. Military honors will be provided by Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
