Leila B. Vaith, age 92, of Owatonna, died peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Koda Living Community. Leila was born March 13, 1923 in Lemond Township, MN the daughter of Martin and Mollie (Moe) Wiek. She attended country school and Owatonna High School. She was united in marriage to Floyd G. Vaith on June 17, 1942 at Aurora Lutheran Church. Following their marriage they farmed in Steele County for 20 years and then built a home in Owatonna where she especially enjoyed visits from grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered for family dinners and her baking of lefsa, apple crisp and her chocolate chip cookies. She was a lifelong member of Aurora Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school and helped out at various church functions and at the Aurora Diner. Leila retired from E.F. Johnson Co. of Waseca in 1987. Prior to her husband's death they enjoyed traveling. She was also well known for her love of needlework. She is survived by her children, Sharon Johnson of Owatonna; Gary (and Pauli) Vaith of Aurora, CO; Ronald Vaith of Bishop, CA; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Christenson of Kasson; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Floyd, who passed away February 22, 1995; her parents; a brother and a sister. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation and gratitude to the caregivers at Koda Living Community for their compassionate care. Also they'd like to thank Joel Jensen for his many visits. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Aurora Lutheran Church or Homestead Hospice House. Visitation will be at Aurora Lutheran Church on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Memorial services will be held Monday, July 27, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Aurora Lutheran Church with The Reverend Ron Barth officiating. Interment will be in the Aurora Lutheran Cemetery.
