Leo Kenneth VanDenHemel, 73, of Owatonna, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at his home. He was born September 9, 1937 in Ramona, South Dakota the son of Marcel and Margaret (Meyer) VanDenHemel. Leo graduated from Dodge Center High School. He served in the US Army from 1962-1966. On Dec. 6, 1969 he married Janet Krenke. The couple made their home in rural Owatonna. Leo worked for Larson Construstion, OMC, King Co. and Acuta Systems. He was a member of Pheasants Forever. He is survived by his wife, Janet VanDenHemel of Owatonna; daughters, Debra (and Donald) Usner of Akron, OH, Angie (and Brian) Judson of Cornell, MI; son, Alan (and Diane) Krenke of Faribault; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Florence Larson of Ellendale; brothers, George VanDenHemel of Ozark, AR, Leonard (and Mary A.) VanDenHemel of Owatonna; sister, Mary (and Francis) Schnorenberg of Mantorville and many nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4pm to 7pm and on Wednesday from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 11am at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Peter Kruiger officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery with military honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
