Leon C. Decker , 97, of Owatonna, formerly of Waseca, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague, Minnesota.
He was born September 27, 1918 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, the son of Peter and Frances (Wierda) Decker. He attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Gordon College in Boston and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth. Leon was united in marriage to Mary Van Wynen on August 9, 1960, at Camp Chetek, Wisconsin. He served as a pastor in North Middleboro, MA, St. Lawrence, SD, Littlefork, MN, Lancaster, WI, Chesterton, IN, Tyler, MN, Maxwell, NE, Wells, MN and Garden City, MN. Leon retired to Waseca 27 years ago and worked for Hardee's for nine years and HyVee for six years. He has lived in Owatonna for the past four years.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; children, Janet (Dick) Chromy, David, Paul (Kyong), Dan (Sharon), Janelle (Dave) Koch, Beth Ann (Roger) Schultz and Nancy (Barry) Schmidt; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dottie (1957); daughter, Karen (2000); four brothers and one sister.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Grace Baptist Church in Owatonna with Pastor David Levy officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9-11am. A private burial will be in Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
