Leona (Lee) Verdell Wulf, age 94, of Owatonna, died peacefully on Thursday, November, 9, 2017 at the Birchwood Cottages care center in Owatonna, MN. Leona was born October 11, 1923 in Seneca, IA, a daughter of George and Martha (Appelt) Jenson. She was raised in Ringsted, IA with her two brothers and sister. Lee was united in marriage to Clifford G. Wulf on June 6, 1948 and made their home in Arlington, NE. After a little more than a decade in Arlington, they relocated to Elkhorn, NE for a few years and Truman, MN for a short time before moving to Omaha, NE. They had nearly 56 wonderful years together living primarily in Nebraska. After retirement, they enjoyed winters in Mesa, AZ. After Cliff passed away in 2004, Lee moved permanently to Mesa, AZ. In 2009, she moved to Owatonna, MN to be closer to family. Lee was a loving wife, mother and educator. She and Cliff always enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. Leona was a graduate of Dana College in Blair, NE where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary aged children for over 30 years, spending most of her career teaching in the Elkhorn, NE and Ralston, NE school districts. As a lifelong educator she enjoyed reading, creative writing and traveling. She also loved music and enjoyed singing. Lee embraced both her Norwegian and German heritage. She loved to make lefse and krumkake for family and friends. Lee spent hours researching her Norwegian and German ancestry and developing the family tree. Lee is survived by a son, Gene Wulf (Barbara) of Sarasota, FL and Menasha, WI; daughter Virginia (Ginger) Flemming (Fred) of Owatonna, MN; daughter-in-law, Janet Wulf of Elkhorn, NE; brothers, Richard Jenson (Cecilia) of Armstrong, IA and Donald Jenson (LaDonna) of Armstrong, IA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; son, Bradley; parents, George and Martha; infant brother, Daniel and sister, Dorothy. A memorial service will be held at 11am, Monday, November 20, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 609 Lincoln Avenue, Owatonna, Minnesota with Pastor Todd Buegler officiating. Leona's family will receive relatives and friends at the church an hour prior to the service. Lee's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Birchwood Cottages and Heartland Hospice for the support and care of Lee in her final days.
