Obituary

Leonard Aaker, 98, long-time resident of Kenyon, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Kenyon Sunset Home, Kenyon, Minnesota. Leonard was born August 11, 1911, in Holden Township, the son of Olaf and Ellen (Solberg) Aaker. He was raised in Holden Township on the family farm and he attended Dovre country school. Leonard then attended the University of Minnesota Agriculture School. Following school, he returned to Holden Township and farmed with his parents. He was united in marriage to Hilda Satren in 1933. They continued to farm. During the depression Leonard also worked for the CCC in Northern Minnesota. Hilda died in 2005 and Leonard continued living on the farm until he recently entered the Kenyon Sunset Home. Leonard had many hobbies. He especially enjoyed reading, fishing, watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He enjoyed listening to polka music on the radio and would normally have the radio on in the barn while milking cows. Hilda and Leonard also enjoyed going to dances. He was a very good singer and sang often and if he wasn''t singing, he was whistling. He is survived by two sons, Robert (and Jan) Aaker of Rochester; Paul (and Julie) Aaker of Kenyon; three daughters, Mary Nivens of Palm Springs, CA; Shirley Mossberg of Cathedral City, CA; and LaDonna Holmes of Kenyon; a brother, Maynard (and Minerva) Aaker of Decorah, IA; a sister-in-law, Wilma Satren of Wanamingo; eight grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Neal and Arnold and three sons-in-law, Harry Mossberg, Bill Nivens and Jack Holmes. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Thursday, August 5, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Holden Lutheran Church, Kenyon with Reverend Rell Spickerman officiating. Interment will be in the Holden Lutheran Cemetery in Kenyon. Visitation: 08/05/2010 17:00 08/05/2010 19:00 Service: and one hour prior to the service at the church. 08/06/2010 11:00
