Leonard Allen Armstrong Sr., 81, of Owatonna, died Friday, September 10, 2010 at Owatonna Commons. Leonard was born May 1, 1929 in Iron River, Michigan the son of George and Lillian (Farrar) Armstrong. There he was raised and attended school. He moved to Minnesota and worked for Scheldahl of Northfield for 10 years and later went to St. Paul Vocational school for watch repair. He was united in marriage to Marie Alexander on July 3, 1954 and they raised five children. In 1972 he began working for Malm Jeweler of Owatonna and continued working there for over 32 years. He then worked as a door greeter at Wal-Mart for 8 years. During this time he did 20 years in the Army, nine years active and 11 years at the 417 in Faribault. He is survived by his wife Marie Armstrong of Owatonna; daughter, Susan Armstrong of Owatonna; four sons, Dennis (and Dawn) Armstrong of Blooming Prairie; Dale (and Dawn) Armstrong of Alden; Kris Armstrong of Austin; Leonard Armstrong Jr. of Austin; a brother, Leland (and Betty) Armstrong of Northfield; a sister, Evelyn (and Albert) Remme of Dennison; 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Diane Lynn, four brothers, Lyle, Howard, Ronald and Gerald and a sister, Dolores. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, September 13, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna with Reverend Gordon Deuel officiating. Interment will be in the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.
