Leonard Kermit Brokke, 88, of St. Cloud, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was born July 18, 1920 in Minneapolis the son of Oscar and Othilda (Walsvik) Brokke. Leonard moved with his parents to Deephaven Village in 1921. He graduated from Deephaven High School in 1939. He enlisted in the Marine Corps January 2, 1942. Leonard was attached to the 1st and 4th Marine Air Corps. He served in the South Pacific, Philippine Islands and China. After his discharge in February 1946, he attended aircraft school at Wold Chamberlin in Minneapolis. Leonard married Golda Ady in Minneapolis. He was employed by the Minnesota Rubber Co., St. Louis Park as manager of plant engineering. He retired October 1, 1982 and resided in New Port Richey, FL and in Litchfield. In 2001, Leonard moved to Brainerd. He is survived by his son, Roger Brokke of York, PA; daughter, Janis (and David) Simons of Brainerd; brothers, Ray (and Phyllis) Brokke of Salida, CO, Oscar Brokke of Garrison; sisters, Delores (and Richard) Strunk of Minnetonka, Betty Brokke of Garrison; grandchildren, Justin (and Gina) Countryman of Eagan, Anne Countryman of Brainerd, grandson, Erik Brokke of Wayside, NJ; great granddaughter, Rachel Countryman of Eagan and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Golda; parents, Oscar and Othelda Brokke and brother, Gordon Brokke. Visitation will be at Holden Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9:30-10:30am. Funeral services will be held January 31, 2009 at 10:30am at Holden Lutheran Church with Reverend Nick Fischer officiating. Interment will be in the Holden Lutheran Cemetery.
