Obituary

Leonard Len Kading, 92, of Owatonna, died Saturday, December 17, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He was born August 25, 1924 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of John C. and Anna (Rishavy) Kading. He grew up in Owatonna where he attended school. He graduated from Owatonna High School, Class of 1943. Following his schooling he entered the United States Navy on September 5, 1944 and service on the USS Stockton in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged on June 3, 1946. After his military service, Len returned to Owatonna and worked as an engraver at Jostens. From 1953 to 1987, he owned and operated Kading's Deep Rock Station. In 1967, he added Owatonna Oil Company bulk service to his business. Len retired in 1987. In his retirement, he volunteered at Heritage Halls. Len enjoyed bowling on the Elks league (he even bowled a 300 game), golfing and spending time at the cabin on French Lake. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion and V.F.W. and a life member of the Elks. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Donna Kading of Owatonna; sister, Delores Nelson and her children, Steve (Sam) Nelson, Gary Nelson and Connie (Edward) Przyczkowski all of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Norma Cawley of Owatonna and her children, Kimberly (Rick) Eppenstiner of Washington, DC, Jay Cawley of Santa Fe, NM, John Cawley of Palm Desert, CA, and Jayne (Brian) Annis of Sacramento, CA; niece, Jody (Mike) Miller of Litchfield and a number of great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Audrey Schultz. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Owatonna with Reverend Loren Olson officiating. Interment with military honors by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Visitation: 12/22/2016 10:00 12/22/2016 11:00 Service: 12/22/2016 11:00
