Leonard William Gustav Nordman, Jr., 85, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, MN. He lost a lengthy battle with Parkinson''s disease and prostate cancer. Len was born on March 18, 1928, in Noonan, ND. He was the only child of Leonard and Mildred (Flugge) Nordman. Len graduated from Murray High School, St. Paul and then served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1946-1948. Len married Evelyn Johnson in St. Paul, MN, on September 10, 1949. They were very happily married for 64 years and had two sons, Jon and Dan. Len was an amazing "Papa" to their three grandchildren. Mr. Nordman received degrees from Hamline University and the University of MN. He worked as a guide for BWCA canoe trips at Camp Widjiwagan in Ely, MN, during his college years and then as an engineer at Link Belt in Cedar Rapids, IA. From 1962-1980 and then 1986-1989, Len enjoyed various management positions at Wenger Corporation in Owatonna, MN. Len loved theology, philosophy and the outdoors - especially Ely and the BWCA. He enjoyed his German heritage, a good book, hot tea, time with family, music and fine machinery (especially cars). Many people at Bethel Church were privileged to sit under the teaching and leadership of Mr. Nordman for several years. Len is survived by his wife, Evie; their sons, Jon (and Gretch) of Elk River, MN, and Dan (and Sandy) of Owatonna, MN; three grandchildren, Jessica, Casandra and Blake. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Bethel Church on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Church in Owatonna with Pastor Tim Haugen officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Military honors will be conducted by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House or Bethel Church in Owatonna.
