Leslie LeRoy Getting, 62, of Owatonna, died Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Homestead Hospice House. He was born January 27, 1958 in Worthington, the son of Leland and Lyla (Bultmann) Getting. He grew up on a family farm outside of Fulda. Les graduated from Fulda High School, Class of 1976. On September 26, 1981, he married Jackie Quarnstrom at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fulda. The couple moved to Owatonna in 1987. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries. Les's passion was always working outdoors in the agricultural field. He worked for 25 years as a corn researcher for DeKalb-Monsanto. When not working, he enjoyed gardening, yard work, and fixing things. He spent 20 years remodeling the family home in rural Owatonna, a true fixer-upper. He was an avid sports fan, following the Gophers and Twins. In 2013, he started Somerset Vines. He planted and tended 800 grape vines, which was his retirement dream. He would say his greatest accomplishment was raising two successful daughters and then starting his business, Somerset Vines. Family was always his priority. Les found great joy in his involvement at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna where he volunteered as custodian, radio announcer, communion server, lector, and served on the St. John Foundation board. His family will miss his, "Well, I s'pose" at the end of dinner and voicemails beginning with… "Hey, Smash and Chantelly, it's about 5:30 Thursday. Just Checking in." He is survived by his wife, Jackie Getting of Owatonna; daughters, Ashley Getting of New York City, Chantel (and Derek) Sina of Apple Valley; mother, Lyla Getting of Fulda; brothers, Elden (and Lynn) Getting of Fulda, Jodie (and Cindy) Getting of Fulda; sisters, Vicki (and Mike) Stewart of Park Rapids, Lorinda (and Lloyd) Witt of Owatonna and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 4pm to 7pm. Private family graveside services will be held Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Fulda at a later date with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating.
