Obituary

Lillian L. Kaplan , 85, of Owatonna, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at Cedarview Care Center. She was born August 12, 1922 the daughter of Albert and Emma (Boyette) Lamm in Wilson, NC. She graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in 1939 and later from Barton College with her BA degree in 1943. In 1951 she graduated from the University of Minnesota with her Masters degree. She married Roland E. Kaplan, May 6, 1944 in Farmingdale, NY. They moved to Owatonna in 1945. Lillian taught country school in Deerfield for one year and also taught in Medford for several years. She taught many years at the Owatonna school system, retiring as Reading Coordinator in 1984. Lillian was a member of the First Baptist Church. Lillian was active in AAUW, Owatonna Women''s Club, Owatonna Christian Women''s Club, and Owatonna Hospital Auxiliary and Steele County Historical Society, Retired Educators of Owatonna, SE Minnesota Retired Teachers Association and Retired Educators of Minnesota. Lillian enjoyed reading, traveling and playing bridge. Lillian is survived by her son Gary Kaplan of St. Paul and by numerous Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by his husband Roland, two brothers: Charles and Kermit and one sister Shirley Ann Brophy. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday at the First Baptist Church with The Reverend Scott Engelhart officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home and also one hour prior at the church. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
