Lillian Irene Vangness, 86, of Kenyon Township, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. Lillian was born August 21, 1926 in Zumbrota, Minnesota the daughter of Wallace and Elda (Tiedemann) Whipple. She was united in marriage to Luther Donald Vangness on December 6, 1947. They farmed together in the Kenyon/West Concord area all their lives. After retiring from milking cows, they enjoyed traveling with friends. Lillian enjoyed being a Sunday School and Bible School teacher and was in charge of the church library for many years. She loved her cats, dogs, cows and calves. She enjoyed visiting, serving 'lunch' and sending greeting cards for every occasion. She influenced many children in their Christian walk with Christ. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Peggy (and Gary) Patterson of Kenyon; two granddaughters Kara Ann (and Chad) Anderson of Scandia, MN; Bretta Lynn (and Justin) Speck of Milwaukee, WI; four great grandchildren Grady and Katelyn Anderson and Anthanasius and Jael Speck; two sisters, Lois Whipple of Rochester; Geraldine (and John) Evans of Minnetonka; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther Vangness; sister Ellen Mohler; son-in-law Don Vrieze, and her parents. Visitation will be at Faith Community Church on Sunday, October 28, 2012from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Faith Community Church with the Reverend David Breederland officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township. Memorials preferred to Faith Community Church, West Concord. Arrangements by Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord.
