Lilymarie 'Mia' Safe, 76, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the Owatonna Hospital. She was born February 19, 1936, in Red Wing, Minnesota, the daughter of Minton and Lily (Pearson) Safe. Lilymarie was baptized and confirmed at Vasa Lutheran Church and attended rural school in Vasa Township, Goodhue County. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School with the class of 1953 and then attended Winona State University. She began teaching elementary school in St. Charles, MN, and then moved to Oregon for a year to teach. She then taught first grade at Lincoln Elementary and later at McKinley School, retiring in 1991. Lilymarie was very proud of her Swedish Heritage. She was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, and had a special place in her heart for cats. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Lohmann of Zumbrota, and her brother, Donald Safe of Vasa, and her cat, MC (Mia''s Cat). She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Pat (and Dan) Banitt, Donald (and Judy) Safe, Bernard Safe, Dale Safe, Marvin (and Angie) Safe, Diane Lohmann, Dennis (and Jo Marie) Lohmann, Dean Lohmann, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother in law, Donald Lohmann, and sister in law, Bernadine Safe. Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, December 7, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be Friday, December 7, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Dean Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Vasa Lutheran Church Cemetery in Vasa Township, Goodhue County. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
