Lloyd H. Voxland , 84, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at his home of Pancreatic Cancer. Lloyd was born to Olaf and Alma (Haugen) Voxland on December 27, 1924 on the family farm. He went to Country School Dist. 148 for the first eight grades and Kenyon High School in Kenyon, graduating in 1942. After high school, he stayed at home and helped his Dad run the farm. In 1944 he became interested in flying and started taking lessons from Bob Boles at the new Kenyon airport, earning his private pilot's license in January of 1946. For the next three years Lloyd was a helper at the airport giving rides and trips to people requesting them. On March 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Larson and they rented the family farm, where they raised three daughters, Stephanie, Linda, and Susan. They purchased the family farm in 1965. Lloyd loved farming, his dairy herd, and was proud of keeping the "place" neat and tidy, his woodlots clean and picked up, and his fences in good repair. He loved his wife, Gerry, during 60 years of marriage, his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After losing their daughter, Susan, to cancer in 1978, both Lloyd and Gerry needed to find something to keep their minds and hearts busy, so Gerry took a job as a travel agent and Lloyd went ahead to renew his pilot's license. In 1985, they bought their own plane, a Cessna 172, and enjoyed 22 years of going to fly-in breakfasts and many trips to Northern Minnesota and the Dakotas. In 1987, he sold part of the farm and moved to Trondheim in Kenyon. In 1990 he was able to buy the Dr. Grovnold property next to the Holden Church parsonage. He spent many proud months getting the property ready for building a new home, moving in March 1991. After retiring from farming, Lloyd had three part-time jobs for many years, driving semi-truck, and hauling fertilizer for the Kenyon Co-Op, and as a substitute bus driver. He dearly loved all of them. Lloyd was a life-long member of Holden Lutheran Church and served on numerous committees, the Church choir and was Council President twice. He was a charter member of Sons of Norway and had once been a member of Kenyon Lions Club and was on the Board of Directors of the Kenyon Farmers Mercantile and Elevator. The Holden Park was his pride and joy, serving on the Park Board for many terms and he made sure the park was in beautiful shape all year long, specifically the lawn and beautiful flowers. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Voxland of Kenyon; daughters, Stephanie (and Murray) MacLeod of Woodland Hills, CA, Linda (and David) Hellstern of Kenyon, grandchildren, Siri (and John) Heille of Fairmont, and Adam Hellstern of Burnsville, great grandchildren, Faith, Gracia ,Norah Heille. Lloyd is also survived by his brother, Willis (and Wanda) Voxland of Burnsville, sister, Clarice (and Calvin) Wolf of Stewartville. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Alma, and his daughter Susan Underdahl, and young brother Arlen.
