Obituary

Loren Steffen Bruessel, 86, of Owatonna, died Friday, March 3, 2017 at Owatonna Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born August 23, 1930 at home on the family farm east of Medford the son of Lyle and Elenora (Steffen) Bruessel. Loren attended country school for 8 years and graduated from Medford High School in 1948. He attended St. Olaf College for a year prior to enlisting in the US Air Force in February 1951. He was stationed in Japan for 2 �½ years during the Korean War as a medic and ambulance driver. After his discharge in 1955 he attended Minnesota School of Business and married Mary Ann Overland October 29, 1955. He was employed by M.F. Patterson Dental Supply after graduation. The couple lived in Milwaukee, WI, Lincoln, NE, and Ft. Worth, TX until 1959 when they returned to Minnesota to begin farming. Loren retired from farming in 1995. During his years farming, Loren had a 26 year career with Steele Rice Ready Mix driving truck. He was also an agent for many years for Owatonna Mutual Fire Insurance Co., taking over for his father after he retired. Loren served as an usher at Trinity Lutheran Church of Owatonna for 44 years. He enjoyed sports, playing cards, travel with family and friends, and reading. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mary Ann (Overland); their children, Jim (and Julie) of Medford, Linda (and Gene) Troggio of Fishers, IN; grandchildren, Jordyn Caudle, Jarrad Bruessel, Alex Raaen, Kate Raaen; an aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews, and Goddaughters. Loren was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darrel Bruessel; sister in law, Delores Bruessel. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 4pm to 7pm and on Saturday from 9:30am to 10:30am. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 10:30am at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Nancy Edwardson officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna with Military Honors provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. The family would like to thank the staffs of the VA, Gold Cross Ambulance, Owatonna Hospital, and Steele County Public Health for their true professionalism and support.
